What I meant about scan quality:

Inevitably, manga scans (or anything NOT CG) are going to not have the right quality. Often, they need a change in contrast, brightness, colors (e.g. less yellow), or just a histogram makeover. The colors of the whole wall were subdued, so it wasn't as much of a problem, but the scan just didn't have a lot of vibrance to it. The other thing is that the scans always have a dottiness (not a word!) to them, just because that's how they were printed (little dots of ink). Really good walls will have solved this problem, by either smoothing out the colors to be more solid, or by adding additional texture to compensate (this texture, however, must be very artistically done to match with the rest of the wall).

For these reasons, manga and non-anime artbook scans in wallpapers are pretty rare. However, they tend to blend well with backgrounds because they're more realistic and don't clash as much with the background. I've seen some scan walls that look almost like a photograph; this has never happened with anime walls. However, since these are easier, most novices start out with them instead.

So, yeah, just a few elaborating comments. ^^
